Our Family Vision - Feijoas - A New Industry for Australia
For many years in New Zealand we enjoyed the unique taste of Feijoa Fruit (a native of South America) and after coming to Australia, we wondered why this wonderful, healthy fruit had generally been kept "secret" from Australians. We also suspected that when Australians tasted them, they would love them too." For some years now, the Feijoa Industry has been rapidly growing and expanding in New Zealand, as well as in other parts of the world, so much so the demand is far outstripping supply in growing overseas markets.
Our vision is to bring this wonderful and health giving industry to Australia and therefore, we have established Australia's first commerical Feijoa Fruit Plantation in the Cooloola Shire, Queensland which is now becoming the centre of the Australian Feijoa Industry.
Our trading company Okara Pty Ltd received a scholarship in 2003 to Jacqueline Casey, to help her gain knowledge and skills
related to managing, processing and growing feijoa fruit.
In the same year we were also awarded funding under the 'New Industry
Development Program's (NIDP) Pilot Commercialisation Project (PCP) - a component of the Australian Government "Backing Australia's
